The department of English was established in 1983,with the existence of SGKGDC.The Department works with the objective of rendering excellent subject to the students along with the courses offered in the college (B.A,B.COM, & B.SC)..It strives for the enhancement of communication and soft skills by implementing various learner-centred methods to the students.The department focuses on the development of the language skills ,particularly to students from rural background.It acts in a collaborative way extending its support and guidance,not only to students but to all the depts as well.

The department functions with the main objective of enhancing LSRW skills to the students by impelmenting various pedagogical methods.It organises various activities like Essay-Writing,Recitation,oratorical and Quiz competitions on important days to develop participation and proficiency to the students.With a well-established Lab,it utilises to render maximum career benefits for the students.It collaborates with JKC and extends its aid to develop employability skills.It organises Guest Lectures vividly to make know the strength  of the English Language to the students.

The Department is planning to offfer certificate courses and Bridge Courses to the newly admitted and the persuing batches. 

Currently, there are two faculty,fully dedicated to acheive the mission of the Department with the avaliable resources at hand.
